An apartment in Gjirokastra is engulfed in flames

An apartment was engulfed in flames this Monday in the "18 Shtatori" neighborhood in Gjirokastra.

According to the Gjirokastra Fire and Rescue Directorate (FRD), the incident was reported at around 17:49 by the State Police, after the fire had engulfed the first floor of a building.

A fire truck with the relevant personnel was immediately dispatched to the scene.

During the intervention, it was determined that an 83-year-old woman was inside the apartment, who was asphyxiated and unable to leave the burning apartment on her own.

Firefighters intervened quickly, enabling the elderly woman to be extricated and transported to the emergency room for first aid.

The operation continued with neutralizing the flames and bringing the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to surrounding homes.

As a result of the fire, the apartment suffered material damage.
