In addition to the seasonal flu, experts indicate that the eye flu, or Adenoviral Conjunctivitis, has also returned. Ophthalmologist Nora Burda tells Gazetasi.al that this flu is caused by adenoviruses that are in circulation and that the first cases of this type of inflammation of the ocular surface have been reported for about two months.

"Compared to previous years, the situation is calmer, but the attention and sensitization of the population should not be reduced", says Burda.

The clinical signs of this inflammation are: redness of the eyes, thick watery secretions usually colorless but there are cases that appear yellow when there is an overlapping bacterial load, stinging sensation, burning in the eyes, ocular discomfort, itching, preauricular gland and painful when touched with the hand on the side of the eye that has more inflammation.

Burda explains that the inflammation does not affect both eyes in the same way, one has clearer symptoms than the other. Also, this type of inflammation of the ocular surface affects all age groups without exception due to its high contagiousness.

"Young children usually present simultaneously with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, bacterial or viral. "Eye inflammation spreads widely in nurseries and kindergartens due to the lack of personal hygiene in children, which is impossible to achieve without parental care", says Burda.

"While in adults, the phenomenon of eye flu is isolated", perhaps precisely because of the above-mentioned reasons.

Adenoviral conjunctivitis has an incubation and recovery period of 2 weeks but this varies from case to case.

Burda says that people who have this type of ocular inflammation should maintain great personal hygiene, wash their hands often, eliminate hand contact with people they meet, eliminate touching the eyes with hands, use in addition to eye drops treatment eyes, and specific wet papers that are bought at the pharmacy to clean secretions and wash hands before and after cleaning the eyes.

"It is important that this type of inflammation is treated in time and diligently because of the complications it presents for the appearance, as the cornea (glass of the eye) can be affected, which gives a cloudy appearance and even more serious clinical problems", Burda concludes. ./NewspaperSi
