The government has approved today the salary increase for local government employees.

The news was announced by the Minister for Local Government , Arbjan Mazniku, who declared that all local government salaries will be unified.

The minister took an example by saying that a jurist or an architect will receive the same salary in every municipality, regardless of its size.

Mazniku said that "Through this decision, we unify the way of calculating salaries and seniority of municipal employees, we unify how seniority is calculated in the state administration as well."

" Today we concluded an important process, which started last year, which is related to local government salaries. It is a reform that deals with the restructuring of municipalities and their staffs into three major groups. The first is a group that deals with policy planning and monitoring, a group that deals with the functions that the municipality performs itself and a group that performs those functions that the municipalities choose to do themselves or contract.

We reclassified salary levels, changing the scheme. From a scheme which divided the municipalities into 5 groups and depending on the size of the municipalities there were also different salary levels, to unified salary levels of all municipalities, regardless of size, giving the possibility that a lawyer, an architect, economists etc. receives a similar salary in all municipalities.

The other element is the increase in the salaries of all municipalities and the increase of new minimums and maximums for all municipalities at unified levels ", said the minister.
