The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, immediately after receiving information about the arrest of the 34-year-old mother in Rinas, has asked law enforcement agencies to resolve the issue and release the mother of three minor children.
Sources for Top Channel indicate that the President has requested information on whether the young woman benefits from amnesty and if not, has requested an official proposal from the Ministry of Justice for personal amnesty for her, as she is the mother of three minor children, one of whom is sick.
The 34-year-old woman was arrested upon arrival in Rinas and sent to prison along with her 7-month-old baby after being reported by her father-in-law for domestic violence.
The Ombudsman, Endri Shabani, has meanwhile inspected today the premises of the Ponjska prison where the 34-year-old mother and her baby are being held.
He said that she should be released tomorrow, and that if this does not happen, we will be facing a violation of procedures.
"Since we were informed by journalist Anila Hoxha, we have launched investigations and sent a group to verify the first phase where we suspect that we are facing a violation of procedure, because a mother with a breastfeeding baby was held for 72 hours in the Security Block, after a final decision was issued. It was unnecessary.
Meanwhile, we inspected the conditions where the child and mother are being held in the Ponjska prison.
"We have informed all institutions, we also have a request to the court, in my opinion the mother will be released tomorrow, and if not we will be facing procedural violations because a mother with a breastfeeding child cannot be kept in prison, for the crime for which she has been convicted," said the Ombudsman.
