New details have been revealed from the arrest of RENEA officer Altin Morina. Two hours before he was arrested, he was in Elbasan and is suspected of handing over sums of money to certain persons.
At noon on Tuesday, he was arrested in Tirana in the Kodra e Diellit area. A few minutes before he was handcuffed, he was observed by the operational forces and was in the vehicle with a senior official of a law enforcement agency, whose identity is not made public by the investigators. It is not known why the officer was not stopped when he was with him.
Morina has declared to the police that he has not committed anything illegal and that he is not part of any criminal group.
"The money is legal and comes from a business. They were withdrawn to the bank and I took them to a friend for my troubles. I have not committed anything illegal and I am not part of any criminal group," said Morina.
Officer Morina is suspected of being involved in drug trafficking with criminal groups in Tirana, Shkodër and Elbasan.
Morina is suspected to be related to Kreshnik Halilajn, who was arrested earlier for having an arsenal of weapons and drugs. In this case, the officer allegedly hid evidence by saying that the cocaine found in Halilaj's house was not cocaine, but bread flour.
Among other things, there are strong suspicions that there is also a connection with Ervis Martinaj's group.
During the last days, he was found in the presence of a relative of Martinaj where he protected him from any possible assassination.
