After a letter sent by the member of the scientific council of UNESCO, Auron Tare to the director general of the British Museum, this institution has decided to change the name of the discovery of the collection of Roman coins discovered in Butrint, from Buthrotum Epirus Greece to Buthrotum Epirus Albania . The British Museum is the most important center of World Museology.
In the reply sent by the Curator of the Department of Coins and Medals, Tom Hockenhull, it is written that Mr. Tare's request is correct and after a thorough investigation it was deemed appropriate to change the name of the Butrint coin collection to Buthrotum Epirus, Albania.
The British Museum's collection of Roman coins were found in Butrint in the early 1920s. Among other things, in this collection there is a single Roman coin which states that in the 2nd century AD a water supply was built in Butrint by Emperor Trajan.
Butrint's coin collection is not the only one from Albania, as this important museum holds objects discovered from all over the world. However, the reaction of this Museum to a very acute issue like the Butrint issue shows the great importance that the world gives to cultural heritage as an important aspect of national cultures and the sensitivity that they carry.
