Head of SPAK, Altin Dumani

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, says that he is not satisfied with the balance sheet of the institution that he has been leading for two years, although he calls it positive and brilliant. Dumani says that this is because he is demanding towards SPAK but also towards himself.

In an interview, the first televised, for journalist Alban Dudushi, Dumani said that SPAK has two priorities, corruption and organized crime, and that so far it has shown that it can prosecute any high official.

He added that SPAK is a new, five-year-old institution and has already been fully formed.

"I am not satisfied with the balance sheet of SPAK, because I am very demanding towards the institution I lead and towards myself. But I can say that we have a positive balance, two years as leader and 5 years as SPAK. Five years is not long for a new institution to take shape. We had a lot of legacy files from Serious Crimes. The first three years of SPAK were not years of hibernation, they were years conditioned by the phase of the institution that was passing.

This is the case with any newly created institution. It was created in 2019 and finding a functioning institution requires many things. Now we have a complete institution, with 20 investigators, our own laboratory, the appropriate technology. There are three priorities of SPAK, the fight against corruption, organized crime and terrorism. As for corruption, I believe that SPAK has proven with evidence that it prosecutes every official, no matter how high", said Dumani.

Asked about the perception that SPAK "hits rather from one side", Dumani said that the new justice institution does not follow a political agenda.

"We don't have an agenda, we don't have a political agenda. Evidence is important for us", he said.
