Two merchant ships collide off the coast of Istanbul, authorities search for ten

Two Turkish-flagged merchant ships collided off the coast of Istanbul today, as authorities announced that the search for 10 crew members is continuing.

According to a statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office, the ships Alsu and Tugberk Imamoglu collided in the early hours of this morning, in a maritime area approximately 28 km south of Silibre.

Coast Guard ships and helicopters were dispatched to the scene for search and rescue operations and there was no visible damage to either vessel, according to the governor's office, which added that authorities have not been able to contact the 10 crew members on the other vessel that collided.

Alsu was operating a route from Kocaeli to Aliaga, while Tugberk Imamoglu had departed from the port of Alexandretta with destination Karadeniz Eregli.
