A 3-story villa in Berat is engulfed in flames, suspected of intentional arson

A fire broke out a few minutes after midnight in a 3-story villa in the "30-Vjetori" neighborhood in Berat. The villa is owned by the citizen Dritan Qato, who has been living in Italy for many years with his family, while the father Shahin Qato, 78 years old, lives alone in the apartment.

After receiving the notification about the fire, numerous forces of the Berat Fire Department and police forces went to the scene. The fire was contained in a short time, while the elderly man was taken out of the apartment without injury. As a result of the fire, fortunately, there were no injuries, while only the third floor of the villa was damaged by the fire.

The head of the Berat Fire Department, Artan Merko, has stated that after receiving the notification, the firefighters immediately went to the scene, having seen that the third floor of the villa was on fire. Merko confirms that we are dealing with a deliberate arson, as the villa was doused with gasoline from all sides. Merko has stated that more firefighting forces have arrived to help and it became possible to bring the fire under control and completely extinguish it.

Many police officers have also arrived at the scene, who will carry out the investigation of the scene, to make it possible to clear it up and identify the author (authors). The reasons why the apartment was doused with gasoline and then set on fire are still unknown, while police sources confirm that the cameras of houses and businesses around the villa are also being checked.
