4 MILLION POUNDS drug empire in Scotland/ ALBANIAN 'translator' posed
Afrim Krasniqi

An Albanian national who acted as a middleman for a structured crime group in Scotland has been sentenced to five years in prison after a court found him guilty of his role in a vast cannabis cultivation operation worth millions of pounds.

Afrim Krasniqi , who had entered the United Kingdom illegally and possessed better English than other members of the group, was hired by the gang to convince homeowners that he was an Italian citizen seeking shelter for his family.

Through this scheme, the criminal network managed to secure a number of properties in Renfrewshire, Edinburgh, Penicuik, Aberdeen, Ayrshire and Angus , which were then converted into cannabis farms.

Krasniqi was later caught after being traced to an address in the capital Edinburgh. According to investigations, the cannabis cultivations were worth £3.8 million.

Residents in Aberdeen had alerted police to concerns about a number of properties in the city.

Officers began to uncover cannabis farms within them, it was also discovered that electricity meters had been tampered with.

Prosecutor David McLean said Krasniqi was " involved " in the properties after using forged identity documents to rent them out.

Defence barrister Iain McSporran told the court: "  His role was essentially someone who had a better command of English than some of the other Albanian gentlemen who were the prime movers. He had no role beyond that, no role in the cultivation of drugs, but he was aware that he was facilitating a criminal enterprise. He was in financial difficulty and made the completely wrong decision to get involved."/ TheSun
