The Supreme Court today approved the decision of the Special Appeal regarding the security measure "prison arrest" against 35-year-old Klajdi Merkaj .
The criminal panel, composed of the trio of judges Ilir Panda, Albana Boksi and Medi Bici, after considering the appeal filed by Merkaj's defense lawyer, decided to dismiss it.
The 35-year-old was extradited on November 20, 2024, from Italy to Albania, after the Criminal Court of Albania had imposed the measure of "prison arrest" on him, for the criminal offense of "Laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", committed in collaboration.
Merkaj is known as a close friend of the Çopja brothers, while from SPAK's investigations so far, it is suspected that the young man laundered the money of Hajdar and Franc Çopja.
We recall that on January 22, 2025, SPAK seized $10 million in crypto from the Çopja brothers, in cooperation with the police of several countries where they are suspected of operating in cocaine trafficking, and making payments in virtual currencies.
