The memorandum is signed between the QSUT and the University of Medicine in Tirana with the University Hospital Center of European Excellence “San Raffaele” and the University “Vita-Salute San Raffaele”. Also present at the ceremony was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said that the QSUT will become a center of excellence in the region and Europe.
According to the head of government, the signing of such an agreement opens a new page for the healthcare of our country.
"This is a historic moment for our healthcare, for the QSUT, but also for Albania itself. Today we open a completely new page, on a path that has been long, not easy and had a starting point that to say it was depressing is an understatement, in a healthcare system where the only value has been that of professionals who fought in scandalous conditions to protect and save lives. Meanwhile, they could not even think that one day the conditions would become what they are today. Again, we are much more ambitious. We are not satisfied with what we have achieved. We want to go further. The ambition is to make this center a reference point for the Balkans and turn it into a center of excellence among the centers of excellence in Europe," said Rama.
Rama added that the evaluations of the QSUT personnel are the basis of the belief that they can transform the center into a center of excellence for healthcare for the entire Balkans. In parallel with the hospital center, the prime minister emphasized that the goal is also the transformation of the Medical University of Tirana. He said that by the end of this decade, the University of Medicine should be transformed into a “branch” of Vita-Salute San Raffaele.
"The goal is that by 2030, on the one hand, QSUT will undergo the transformation that the San Raffaele group has brought to Poland, by being directly involved in all processes, the management of the center, in the organization of the entire daily life of the center and by truly uniting the professionals of both sides, San Raffaele and QSUT. The same ambition is for the university. We have the example of BOKU University of Vienna, which has begun the merger process with UBT, so that by the end of this decade, students from all over Europe will come to study with all the parameters of the University of Vienna and receive the same diploma. The goal is the same for the University of Medicine to receive the same diploma as that of San Raffaele and for Tirana to be a branch of the University of San Raffaele. This is the objective of the end of the decade," Rama said.
