The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has reacted from his cell on social media on the occasion of his 46th birthday.

He says that on this unusual birthday for him, he was overjoyed by the letters and congratulations that came to him in the Durrës detention center.

Veliaj thanks the people who have taken care of his mother, wife and young son during the 10 months he has been in detention.

The mayor calls the year 2025 absurd, but says it allowed him to discover friends from the hard days, whom he will never forget.

" I was immensely happy to receive your letters and congratulations here in Durrës, on this unusual birthday.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my mother, wife and little son during these 10 months.
This has been an absurd year, but I have discovered friends from the difficult days that I will never forget!
I love you very much and I hug you with longing!
Thank you from ❤️ !", writes Veliaj.
