An Albanian criminal has been allowed to stay in the UK because his son does not prefer to eat food from other countries.

An immigration court in Britain said it would be too harsh for a 10-year-old boy to be forced to move to Albania with his father because of his sensitivity about food, The Telegraph reports.

The only example given in court was his dislike of "the type of chicken pieces that are available abroad."

As a result, the judge allowed the father's appeal against the deportation as a violation of his right to family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), citing the impact that his removal might have on his son.

The case, revealed in court documents, is among a record number of 34,169 pending asylum applications. The number represents a fivefold increase in two years from 6,386 pending applications at the same point in 2022.

The Telegraph says data to be published on Monday shows there were 609 arrests last month for illegal work, a 73 per cent increase on January 2024 and a 48 per cent increase in raids from 556 to 828.

The Home Office will also publish photos and videos of migrants being deported from the UK and forcibly placed on planes.
