Father Nikolla Marku, the self-proclaimed priest of the "Saint Mary"

On Saturday evening, July 19, at 10:00 PM, after a long and serious illness, Father Nikolla Marku, the self-proclaimed priest of the "Saint Mary" Orthodox Church in Elbasan, passed away at the age of 77.

His figure is known for his decades of dedication to serving faith and community, turning the church in the Kala neighborhood of Elbasan into a vibrant spiritual center open to every believer.

Father Nikolla Marku maintained a steadfast stance in defense of the autocephaly of the Albanian Orthodox Church.

He was considered a voice of religious independence and national dignity, often lonely in his stances, but always determined to defend the Albanian Orthodox heritage.

The reception for condolences is taking place at the "Saint Mary" Church in Elbasan, where he served his entire life, while the funeral ceremony will take place today at 5:00 PM, with the participation of believers, citizens and those who shared with him the values of faith and identity.

Father Nikola Marku will be remembered as a rare figure who did not remain silent in the face of injustice and who served God and the nation with dedication until the end.
