Livestock breeders in the southern region of the country rose again in protest this Sunday, just two weeks after the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Anila Denaj.

Cattle breeders say that after the meeting there has been no more contact with the ministry and their voice seems to have fallen on deaf ears again.

They have drawn up a petition where they have presented all their demands for regulating the market and the price of milk and beef. Today, the farmers of this area have started collecting signatures to officially submit their demands to the ministry.

"We met again after two weeks and made a petition about the points we told the minister. The farmers of the South municipalities participate in this petition. On the part of the ministry, we request the regeneration of winter pastures that are non-functional. We demand at all costs the regulation of the meat market. We demand the implementation of the Arab project that you launched two years ago, because we are penalized by that meat production that comes from abroad, because it is subsidized and its origin is unknown. We ask that water works that have been neglected be seen with priority. They were built in the 60s and are depreciated.”

Livestock farmers also demand investments in water works such as drainage and irrigation canals, as well as legal regulation of pastures.

They also expressed concern about the subsidy law, criticizing the funding distribution scheme that the European Union provides for Albanian agriculture.

"We have not seen any reaction until today. That day he asked us to become cooperative. In the cooperative, there are no farmers here who do not have less than 300 head of cattle. We do not seek to punish those who are small. Even those who have 50 heads should be given and subsidized. They provided us with NIPT and told Europe that we have so many million farmers, where are they? Where are the money that Europe gives us? Why does Serbia have 38 euros, Macedonia 35, Kosovo 16 years of statehood has 28 euros. Even for milk, we are not satisfied that cheese on the market for 14,000 lek, we get 160 new lek. And that's why we fought to get it. The livestock farmers' subsidies should be equal to the countries of the region, at least to Serbia, who made the "Open Balkan" agreement on our backs, without asking us at all."
