The opening of immigrant centers in Albania, reached in an agreement between Prime Minister Edi Rama and Georgia Meloni, has been postponed.
The Italian news agency ANSA reports that despite the fact that they were scheduled to open on May 20, this deadline has been postponed due to the non-completion of the construction of the structures at the construction site of Gjadra and Shengjin.
"The Italian military engineers working at the construction sites of Shengjin and Gjadër, according to the agreement between Rome and Tirana, have not yet completed the construction of the facilities," writes ANSA.
It was the announcement last March by the prefecture of Rome about the appointment of reception services that decided their operation "no later than May 20, 2024".
"The departure had to be confirmed by the Ministry of Interior with 15 days notice. Meanwhile, the contract for the management of the facilities for 24 months was won by the Medihospes cooperative with an offer of 133.8 million euros", writes ANSA.
The plan envisages the construction of three centers in the district of Lezha.
The first reception point will be in the port city of Shengjin, which will be used only for initial health checks and the collection of asylum requests, where there will be a maximum of 880 places and two other centers in Gjadër where immigrants will have to to wait for a response to their request for asylum or possible repatriation, theoretically a maximum of 28 days./ ANSA
