The Italian court has sentenced a 27-year-old girl from Ovada to 6 years in prison for the murder of 53-year-old Massimo Garitta.
According to Italian media, the incident happened on January 1, 2019, when the man's body was found, after a complaint from a train passenger, who had seen the corpse in a field near the railway.
The young woman of Albanian origin, who was 24 years old at the time of the incident, explained that the man had tried to rape her, causing injuries to her legs. In an attempt to escape, always according to her version, she says that she ran over Garitta with her small car.
The 53-year-old was found in a field wearing a sweatshirt and shorts. The young woman explained that on the afternoon of December 31, she had met Garitta in the city and that she had reached a suburban area with him.
At that moment, it is assumed that the sexual assault began, an attempted rape proven, among other things, by the injuries to the woman's legs. But the judges of the Court of Appeal reviewed the documents, heard from several experts who analyzed the tracks left by the car and overturned the result of the trial of the first instance.
Regarding the decision, the defense has announced the appeal of the case, and the file will go to Cassation.
