The British mayor: Albanians are welcome

The Albanian community in the United Kingdom has drawn up a petition demanding that Albanians not be treated with racism and denigrated. Among other things, the petition emphasizes that there are about 140,000 people from the community in question.

Two-thirds of these came from Italy and Greece, due to the economic crises of 2008-2014 in these countries, and the rest came legally in the early 90s.

They do not forget to emphasize the gratitude for the opportunities that England has offered you. But they do not forget to emphasize that they are regular tax payers and law-abiding citizens. In London alone, there are 1,200 businesses run by Albanians. 58 are Albanian academics who lecture at universities across the country, ranked among the best in the world. Dozens of young, educated Albanians work in the City's Financial Center. For these and many other reasons, the Albanian community in the United Kingdom requests through a petition to put an end to the campaign of defamation and racism.

They say that the Secretary of the Interior, Suella Braverman, should apologize to the Albanian community and Albanians as a whole for using terminology unacceptable to them.

"It was not a positive news for us and it made me think why it has come now, while we have been emigrating for years, there are other nationalities coming which have often dominated and we are not in such large numbers compared to continents others, I can say, come to England from Asia or Africa, who are much more numerous than us", said doctor Klodiana Dervishi.
The Albanian community in England counts more than 140 thousand legal immigrants from Albania and Kosovo. These immigrants are well integrated into the society and life of this country, contributing with taxes according to the law. The vast majority of society in the United Kingdom has not accepted the accusations made in the name of Albanians.

"During the last few weeks, in several cases, as mayor, I have formalized the citizenship acceptance ceremonies. So, I was part of the granting of citizenship to many people from Albania and Kosovo, during the last few weeks. There are those who choose to become regular citizens in Britain. People who have come through different routes, either as refugees or through other family arrangements.
But when people choose to become a full part of the British community and the British family, that is naturally welcome. People choose to become part of the great mix of nations, of peoples, that have become part of Britain over the last few years," said the Mayor of Barnet, Alison Moor./TCH
