Ministry of Defense announcement:

Massive landslide at the chrome processing plant in Klos – operation continues to find a missing employee

Klos, May 3, 2025 – At around 2:30 p.m., at a place called “Qafa e Burrelit”, in the premises of the chrome processing factory located in the territory of the Klos municipality, a massive landslide occurred. The serious incident involved an excavator-type vehicle and covered an employee of the company that operates in the exploitation of minerals in this area.

Immediately after the event, numerous forces were engaged in an effort to find and recover the body of the missing employee.

The complex operation includes:

Fire Protection and Rescue Service of the Municipality of Klos,

Police Forces,

Employees of the National Authority for Safety and Emergencies in Mines (AKSEM),

Medical team with ambulance,

Volunteer force from the community,

Armed Forces personnel with metal detection equipment,

Employees of the National Agency for Natural Resources

The landslide that occurred involves a considerable mass of soil, with estimated dimensions of about 500 meters long, 20 meters wide and over 4 meters deep. The terrain in the affected area remains unstable, which has brought great difficulties in the intervention with other heavy vehicles, due to the risk of further landslides. For this reason, the interventions are being carried out with extreme caution, to avoid any additional risk to the forces engaged in the operation.

However, currently in part of the valley it has become possible to intervene with excavators and other auxiliary vehicles.

Despite continuous efforts, it has not been possible to locate or recover the body of the excavator worker to date. The search operation continues with maximum dedication, respecting all safety protocols and in close cooperation between the relevant institutions.
