The Special Court accepted the request of the four defendants of the Tirana incinerator, Silena Tola, Etleva Kondi, Alba Thoma and Pëllumb Abeshi, to be tried under the ordinary procedure and to separate the case from the rest.
Judge Elsa Ulliri also accepted the request of 8 other defendants for a summary trial. Specifically, former Minister of Environment Leftër Koka, Erjon Murataj, Bledar Karoli, Taulant Tusha, Namik Simixhiu, Valbona Ballgjini, Sidita Kopliku and Jetmir Llapaj.
In the next session, prosecutor Dritan Prençi is expected to give his conclusions for the 8 defendants, while the trial for the other four will continue.
The Tirana incinerator case went to trial on December 13, 2024. On August 2, the Special Prosecution Office officially announced the closure of the investigations into the 12 accused persons, suspected of having committed the criminal offense of "abuse of office".
For the Tirana incinerator, former Socialist MP Alqi Bllako, who is also the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, has distanced himself from the issue. This is because Bllako is accused of another criminal offense, that of corruption.
The case against him is in the stage of issuing conclusions by the prosecution.
The next session will be on February 7, at 1:00 p.m.
