He set fire to the forest, 58-year-old man arrested in Shijak

Police have arrested a 58-year-old man in Shijak, suspected of being the perpetrator of the fire that engulfed a forested area in the village of Shetel, putting surrounding homes at risk.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening, around 8:00 PM, when the suspect, citizen IB, a resident of the village of Shetel, burned waste on his land, but the fire got out of control due to strong winds.

The flames engulfed a large area of forest and seriously endangered several homes near the fire.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecution Office of the General Jurisdiction of Durrës, where the 58-year-old will face the charge of "Destruction by fire of forests or forest environment", according to Article 206/a of the Criminal Code.

Police appeal to citizens to avoid actions that could cause deliberate or negligent arson, endangering life, property and the environment.
