Jani Rustemaj, who was rumored yesterday by the media to have ended up in a coma after being arrested by the police, is stable.

He was left in prison under the decision of the court of first instance for theft.

Clarification of DVP Tirana

Based on a statement dated April 30, 2023, by the CENTER FOR LEGAL EMPOWERMENT-CLE, as well as the interest of the media, we clarify as follows:

On 12.04.2023, the citizen JR was arrested for the criminal offense "Theft", provided for by Article 134 of the Criminal Code. (A press release dated 13.04.2023 was issued for this arrest).

On 14.04.2023, while this citizen has been in the Security Block of the DVP Tirana, he has shown health concerns, and from the structures that deal with the security of detainees and arrestees, the medical emergency service has been notified, who have presented themselves at the premises of the Security Block and after receiving medical aid, his condition has improved.

On 15.04.2023, this citizen was escorted to the premises of the Tirana Judicial District Court, where this Court has set the security measure "Arrest in prison".

On 16.04.2023, after the issuance of the order for the execution of the security measure by the Prosecutor, the necessary documentation was prepared, and this arrested person was sent to IEVP-313, Tirana. The authorities of IEVP 313 have not accepted to take him into custody due to the overload in this institution and under these conditions he has been returned and placed again in the Tirana Security Block.

On 17.04.2023, the citizen JR again showed health concerns and after the arrival of the health emergency, he was transported to the "Mother Teresa" hospital, where he was admitted and secured in the hospital premises by police officers of the DVP Tirana. Pursuant to the execution order of the Prosecutor, dated 19.04.2023, in the premises of the "Mother Teresa" hospital, he was taken into custody by the structures of the General Directorate of Prisons.

On 30.04.2023, at Police Station No. 3, Tirana, the PR citizen (the mother of the arrested person) presented herself and filed a report, who raised claims about her son's health treatment.

Structures of Police Station No. 3 in cooperation with the Directorate of AMP Tirana, have administered the report of this citizen, have seized all the procedural and health practice for this arrested person, have asked the quality of the person that shows useful circumstances for the investigation, some police officers and the staff medical of the Security Block, and the materials will be passed to the Prosecutor's Office of the Judicial District of Tirana for evaluation.
