An Albanian immigrant in England is fighting for his life after a suicide attempt at the Brook House asylum seeker detention center near Gatwick Airport.
It is about a 38-year-old man originally from Librazhdi who had arrived in England a year ago by raft.
His relatives told Top Channel that he is being kept alive in the East Surrey ICU by medical equipment.
"The doctors have given us very little hope as he has severe brain damage from the suicide attempt," said his nephew by phone from Greece.

The Albanian immigrant was kept in this immigrant center for 10 days for the purpose of deportation from England.
He was found in the room hanging with a sheet, an action he had taken 20 minutes before he was discovered by his roommate.
It is believed that a possible depression produced the suicide attempt of the young man from Librazhdi who was taken by immigration officers to the apartment where he lived in London.
The English Ministry of Internal Affairs Home Office, contacted by Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, neither denied nor opposed this suicide attempt of the Albanian emigrant.
A Home Office spokeswoman said: The health and wellbeing of people in our care is of the utmost importance and we are committed to ensuring detention and removals are carried out with dignity and respect. A number of safeguards are in place, including an on-site Health Care Team that individuals can easily access 24/7.
An investigation in September 2023 revealed that in the immigration detention center Brook House where the Albanian attempted suicide, there was repeated physical and verbal violence.
The report of this inquiry highlighted that at Brook House there was an inhumane treatment of immigrants bordering on the violation of human rights.
At Brook House, there is currently a significant number of Albanian immigrants who have been refused asylum and are then deported from there every Wednesday to Tirana./TCH
