Italian media have reported a case of a 37-year-old man from Barletta who suffered serious health problems after undergoing treatment at a dental clinic in Albania where he removed 20 teeth in the same day.
In the middle of March this year, Simone Del Vecchio, an Italian web designer, decided to travel to Albania for a dental treatment. Recently, numerous clinics offering competitive prices have flourished on the other side of the Adriatic, attracting many Italians looking for lower-cost health services. But, for Del Vecchio, this experience turned into a real nightmare, writes "Fanpage.it"
According to his brother Marco's account to Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Simone underwent a joint operation to remove all his teeth and place implants in both jaws on the same day.
"Twenty teeth were removed at once. They administered four gum anesthetics and a light general sedation without preliminary examinations, as well as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and sedatives. After the treatment, which lasted from 14:00 to 18:00: 00, returned to his room in the same clinic where he had the intervention. But Simone did not even make it to the room; after a sip of water, his condition worsened and suffered a first cardiac arrest, followed by three more."
More than eight months have passed since that day and the 37-year-old has been hospitalized, first in Tirana and then in Bari, in the intensive care unit.
"He had been in a 'pharmacological coma' for more than a month. He still suffers from short-term memory problems. In early June, he was transferred to the Infectious Diseases ward because of a dangerous bacterial infection, candida auris, which led to He stayed there until September 27, when we decided to transfer him to 'Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza', where he is still at danger of suffocation due to a tracheal stenosis that prevents him from drinking, eating and breathing normally. He is expected to undergo another operation soon," his brother confesses.
