Tributes for the murder of Egli Proga in Pogradec, the 42-year-old's

The citizens of Pogradec came out en masse to pay homage to the murder of 42-year-old Egli Proga a few days ago.

The family members of the victim, among them the father and sister, also participated in the tributes that are being held at the scene.

In a short statement for the media, the 42-year-old's father says that they only want justice, nothing else.

" Only justice, only justice! The truth came out, that's all" , says Egli Proge's father.

According to the investigations, Eglantin Proga was raped by 29-year-old Denis Meçe, where the body injuries caused his death. Proga, after the fight with the young man, closed his bar and walked along the road, while appearing to walk almost haunted.

From the little that has been shown by many eyewitnesses, it is known that Enlangin Proga has closed his business and headed to his home. A few meters away, Denis Meçe was sitting in a bar. He called Egli and something was discussed between them. Afterwards, Denis got up and punched him in the head. From what was learned later, from the data available to the family, it is known that in fact Denis has asked for a daily turnover in the form of a fine.

In the dialogue between them, heard by a witness, but not documented by the investigative group, it is said that Egli told him that he could not give them fines because he had two minor children to raise. The shadow of the scandal takes on other dimensions, when it is suspected that Egli was beaten inside the premises of the bar and then, with few signs of life, was thrown into the street. The footage made available to the media shows Eglin walking, a fact that the family members of the deceased categorically deny. Even the owner of the bar, who was arrested for not reporting the crime, in the testimony he gave showed uncertainty at the moment when Egli was hit, excluding that he had seen the person who had shot him. In the place where the crime took place, there is no film footage, while there is film footage only in the part of the road where there is a small market and where you can see a moment walking and then it is impossible for the deceased to move.

The scandal is further deepened by a testimony made public by the victim's first cousin. He says that when he saw Egli in bad condition, he asked Egli's close friend to take him to the hospital, but there was also a police officer at the place where Egli was. It is good that the friend of the deceased did not accept, but also the officer, who has not been identified yet, did not allow other passers-by to take him until the ambulance arrived. And so it really happened. The ambulance arrived at the scene after more than half an hour, taking the 42-year-old dead.

The doctors of the Pogradec hospital have not yet issued any official response regarding the real causes of the death of Eglantin Proga, while the family members and relatives accuse all the responsible structures that all the delays were made in order not to discover the group of criminals who operate mainly in the city of Pogradec. In court yesterday, during the session, Egli's sister was present, who once again made strong public accusations against the Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the Pogradec hospital. Likewise, Egli's father also reacted yesterday, who has strong doubts that the footage has been deleted and that the prosecution and the police have not requested either the footage or the documentation by collecting the testimonies of the people who were present in the the moment the fight started and until the moment when the young man breathed his last surrounded by dozens of curious people who were afraid to give him help.

The event was recorded in the eyes of many witnesses, who remained silent before the authorities while 3 of them were put in handcuffs for not reporting the crime. Voltan Shulku, 40 years old, Arian Manellari, 55 years old, and Leonidha Guçe, 47 years old, not only did not report the crime, but they were told that they will be accused of obstructing the disclosure of the truth, but in fact they were released yesterday by Court of Korça. Other witnesses said he fell to the ground and lay there for 30 minutes, while a police officer was also nearby. The relatives tried to take the 42-year-old and send him to the hospital, but they were refused and were told by the police that help can only be given by specialized people, but the ambulance came late, according to them.

STRONG ACCUSATIONS OF THE FAMILIES

Jonida, the sister of the deceased, has been making strong accusations against the authorities since yesterday. She says that the authorities themselves have tried to erase the event by reporting it as accidental. According to her, the State Police acted late, while the ambulance was also late and the intervention for her brother was too late. In fact, the sister stated that the police initially told the family members that he had fallen, but when they saw the body, it was clear that it was barbaric violence.

Other relatives say that those involved in the incident are known in the area for fining other people, but the authorities have remained silent. The general director of the State Police was forced yesterday to order an inspection of the procedures carried out by the Police of Pogradec, in the district of Korça, regarding the event which was initially reported as accidental.

He ordered the Directorate of Professional Standards to carry out the evaluation of the implementation of the tasks of the structures in the Local Police Directorate, Korça, and in the Police Station of Pogradec, regarding the event where, after a conflict, 42-year-old Egli Proga lost his life.

In the session, which lasted more than an hour, the prosecution requested the measure of arrest in prison for the author under the charge of manslaughter, as well as the setting of the mandatory appearance measure for Voltan Shulku, Arian Manellari and Leonidha Guçe, the owner of the bar where the incident took place and the other two customers who have been drinking coffee. The Court of Korça has remanded the 29-year-old Denis Meçe, the murderer of Egli Proga, in prison as a security measure, while it has set the security measure of Obligation to Appear for the other three accused for failing to report the crime.

Although in the official notification of the police of Korça Denis Meçe has been arrested under the charge of intentional murder, the prosecution body has estimated that from the investigations so far the offense is classified as manslaughter. But Egli's sister and relatives say that this murder continues to be associated with many other injustices. Further investigations will help in the complete clarification of this serious event that happened as a result of "fining", a widespread phenomenon in our country, but which is little talked about.
