The trial of the foundation for the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj , and 29 others was held today.

Veliaj did not appear, but the two prosecutors in the case were present.

"Veliaj has made a statement saying 'I wish to be represented by his lawyer Plarent Ndreca, who is present,'" the court said at the start of the session.

Ajola Xoxa, and former MP Klotilda Bushka were absent from the session, but were represented by their lawyers. Only Elman Abule was present among the defendants.

Former police officer Fatjon Baci was also absent, as was his lawyer Artan Simoni.

The court asked prosecutors how to proceed with the start of the trial when one of the defendants does not even have a lawyer in the courtroom.

Lawyer Sokol Hazizaj intervened and said: I ask the court to separate the case for his client, the defendant Fatmir Bektashi.

The hearing was adjourned to April 3 at 9:00 AM.

During the session, SPAK Prosecutor Ols Dado said: We see that they are following a strategy to postpone the process. We have eight months. Separately as a request, this one by Hazizaj does not represent any interest for judicial economy unless a shortened trial is requested.

Hazizaj: I made a very simple request, both for judicial economy and also referring to the law. I estimate that we are at the moment when the court will express its opinion on the division of the case for my client.

Erjon Veliaj's lawyer: The prosecutor is trying to combine the times, both the preliminary trial and the foundation to create the idea of ​​extending the time. The Constitution mentions due process. Of course, we are for judicial economy, but in no case at the expense of the defendants. The request to postpone the session by lawyer Simoni, who is absent, I think should be taken into account so that everyone is at the session.

Court: We will speak later regarding Sokol Hazizaj's request.

Court: Regarding the absence of Fatjon Baci and his lawyer Artan Simoni, the court decided to assign another defense attorney to the defendant, Pranvera Doci, who will be notified and must be present at the next session. The mandatory escort of the defendant Fatjon Baci will be carried out at the next session.

The postponement of today's session also brings about the suspension of detention terms for defendants who are under security measures.
