A federal court in New York has struck down the Trump administration's decision to block immigration visas for Albania and 74 other countries. Judge Jeannette Vargas declared the measure completely unlawful. According to the ruling, the State Department violated a 1965 federal law prohibiting discrimination against applicants based on nationality, and exceeded its legal authority.

In its ruling, the court emphasized that US law requires each applicant to be individually assessed for income, health and abilities and collective rejection based on nationality.

In January, Washington decided to indefinitely suspend the issuance of immigration visas - both family and work - on the grounds that immigrants from these countries could become a burden on US social assistance schemes.

This measure affected almost 40% of the world's countries, including countries like Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Somalia, and Russia. Albania was also among this list.

This was about permanent visas that lead to a residence permit, such as family reunification or work visas. Meanwhile, temporary, non-immigrant, student and tourist visas were not affected.

As CNN reports, although it has not yet received an official response from the State Department and the White House on this matter, the judge has given both parties until September 11 to present their proposals on further steps and the possibility of appealing the decision.
