The GJKKO accepts the summary trial for Dedan Gjoni and the drug trafficking

The Special Court accepted the request for a summary trial for some of the defendants of the drug trafficking group, which was hit in November 2023 by SPAK.

The trial panel, composed of Erjon Çela as presiding judge, Bib Ndreca and Ardit Mustafaj as members, accepted the request of the 6 defendants to be tried in the form of a shortened procedure, from which they may benefit from a reduced sentence if they are found guilty of the charges brought by the Special Prosecution Office.

Specifically, the request of the former chief of crimes at police station number 6 Dedan Gjoni, Adrian Cenaj, Bujar Ajeti, Besmir Murtati, Ismail Zeneli and Albert Prenga was accepted, while Jonida Babameto, former specialist at the Interpol Tirana office, and Erzen Breçani, former deputy head of the Tirana police, requested an ordinary trial.

The GJKKO declared incompetence for Jonida Babameto and Erzen Breçani, sending the case to the Tirana Court.

Erzen Breçani stated in the courtroom that he could not accept being tried with the evidence presented by SPAK.

Breçani: I want to be tried with the usual procedure. I know the investigation very well and to my knowledge, the one who is behind me, Bujar Ajeti, whom I have known since we were children, then also at RENEA, to my knowledge this person has not been wanted by the Albanian state. I have my reasons why I do not accept the summary trial. Bujar Ajeti has been escorted several times, he has crossed the border with a passport. I have been following criminals all my life, I no longer support this category now. I cannot accept that I be tried with this evidence that has been presented. As for the charge of "money laundering", it has not even occurred to me and I have not laundered money. SPAK itself says that we do not have the financial means and it is true, we took the money for the hydroelectric power plant from my brother who has been with us for 25 years, with several businesses".

Prosecutor Vladimir Mara stated that Erzen Breçani used a pin in the Sky Eç application that was previously used by justice associate Nuredin Dumani.

Meanwhile, the court has separated from this process the other persons who are still wanted, including Erzen Breçani's son, Eralbi, Ervin Mata, Artan Sulejmani and Bajram Grabova, who have been internationally wanted since November 2023.

Some of the defendants requested that the case be separated from the others, a request which was not accepted by the GJKKO.

This structured criminal group is accused of "international drug trafficking" in several episodes, "providing conditions and material means to commit murder", "illegal possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition", "production and sale of narcotics", "laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", "committing criminal offenses by a criminal organization and structured criminal group", "extraction of secret information".

The investigations into this file were closed on August 6, 2024 by prosecutor Vladimir Mara.
