General Bardhyl Hoxha, former director of the logistics directorate at the Ministry of Defense, testified in court about the process against Mediu.
At first, the prosecutors of the case recognized him from a memo compiled by him in December 2006, where a reply from the logistics department was sent to a fax from the American company, SAC.
It proposed that the dismantling of the munitions be done in Bërzhitë. Meanwhile, according to the logistics directorate, the answer was returned within 24-48 hours, according to Hoxha, the reason was that Bërzhita was not a suitable place as it was near the houses and the main road, and the depots were not licensed to carry out this process.
In his testimony, Hoxha stated that the licensing was not a special act, but the condition of the warehouse, the barbed wire fence and the isolation were taken into account. Under these conditions, Bërzhita fulfilled these conditions.
"Sokrat Papadhima, specialist, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, Ardian Mullai and a lawyer were present. I don't know what happened to Gërdec because in that period I left my position, taking another post. The response within 48 hours was done as the issue of dismantling is very important and we give attention to every possible project and suggestion. We had 109 tons of ammunition that had to be destroyed."
Fatmir Mediu also testified at GJKKO, where the case for Gërdec is being developed.
