Renowned actor Gaz Paja has broken his silence after the controversy and criticism that have accompanied him in recent days, publishing a long statement defending his family, political beliefs, and rejecting the accusations made against him.

The actor's reaction comes just a few days after a video showing him being insulted by several citizens at the Tirana Castle went viral.

Paja says he is "as Albanian as anyone" and that, like every citizen, he is hurt when his family is attacked.

"I'm used to insults, even though I don't deserve them. But it hurt me that everything happened in front of my wife, the mother of our child. It hurt me that she too became the object of attack just because she walked by my side. There is a line that should never be crossed. Politics ends where family begins," the actor writes.

He emphasizes that he chose to remain silent for a few days, not out of fear or because he had something to hide, but because he believes that people are worth more than political beliefs. However, according to him, when the dignity of the family is violated, silence is no longer a virtue.

Gaz Paja admits that he supports the Socialist Party, explaining that this is related to his leftist beliefs and that it is a personal choice. He underlines that he has never been part of political structures and that he does not even possess a party membership card.

"I have not received positions, I have not received privileges, I have not received tenders and I have never lived at the expense of the state. I have worked since I was a child. I have no villas on the coast, I have no villas in the mountains, I have no hidden properties or wealth that I cannot explain," he says.

Responding to the debate on the issue of strategic investment, the actor explains that he was only an intermediary between the investor and the landowners, who, according to him, are his personal friends. He adds that he later became part of the investment company, but denies having benefited from any property or favors.

"They call me part of the government. If that were the case, maybe I wouldn't have to work so hard to make ends meet and count every expense like any ordinary Albanian," Paja writes.

At the end of the statement, the actor calls for the political debate not to turn into a personal lynching and for family members not to be involved.

"You can insult me, you can oppose me, but don't denigrate my family. Don't turn democracy into lynching. I will continue to work, live honestly and defend everyone's right to think differently. The new Albania should not have hatred and violence, but education, love, respect and hope," concludes Gaz Paja.

Gaz Paja's full reaction:

I am just as Albanian as you.

And just like you, I get hurt when someone touches my family.

My balls don't hurt. I'm used to being insulted, even though I don't deserve it. (Yes, this is my opinion.)

But it hurt me that everything happened in front of the eyes of my wife, the mother of our child.

It hurt me that she too became the object of attack, not for who she is, not for what she has done, but just because she walks by my side.

THERE IS A LINE THAT SHOULD NEVER BE CROSSED: POLITICS ENDS WHERE FAMILY BEGINS.

I have chosen to remain silent these days. Not out of fear. Not because I have something to hide. I have remained silent because I have always believed that people are worth more than political beliefs and that friendship is stronger than any party flag.

But when my dignity and that of my family are attacked, silence is no longer a virtue.

Yes, I support the Socialist Party. I have done so and I continue to do so, because my beliefs are left-wing.

It's my choice and my right. But that doesn't mean I agree with every decision or every individual.

I criticized when I thought I should criticize and I supported what I believed was right.

I have never been part of any political structures. I don't even have a party card.

I have not held any positions, I have not received any privileges, I have not received any tenders, and I have never lived at the expense of the state.

I have been working since I was a child.

I don't have villas on the coast. I don't have villas in the mountains. I don't have hidden properties. I don't have wealth that I can't explain. I only have my hands, my sweat, my art, and my conscience.

As for the issue of strategic investment, there has been a lot of talk. The truth is simple: I was only an intermediary between the investor and the landowners, who are my personal friends. As a result, I became part of the company that would invest.

I have neither received property, nor favors, nor benefits.

They call me part of the government.

I wish it were that easy. If I were in power, maybe I wouldn't have to work so hard to make ends meet. Maybe I wouldn't count every expense like every ordinary Albanian. Some may call me wrong for my political beliefs. That's their right. But no one has the right to call me a thief just because I vote differently.

I don't support politicians, I support people I knew before politics, and if this is a flaw in my character, so be it, but I think, like most of you, that whoever is a friend in good times, stays in difficult times too.

Imagine how many millions of us would have to shoulder the sins of every politician we voted for. This is not justice. This is hatred. You can curse me. You can oppose me. You can no longer greet me.

BUT DON'T DENIGRATE MY FAMILY.

Don't turn democracy into lynching.

I will not respond to you with hatred.

I will not respond to you with violence.

I will answer you by continuing to work, to live honestly and to defend everyone's right to think differently. Because political beliefs change. Governments fall and rise. But the character of a person remains. And I would rather lose a political debate than lose humanity.

You have no idea how much I respect the right to protest when you don't like something.

It's your right, it's my right, we have it protected by law, as there is an unwritten Albanian law, that the family is sacred.

The new Albania should not have hatred and violence, on the contrary, it should offer education, love, respect, and hope.

I hope you understand me and give me all the respect you deserve.
