It used to have 3,000 inhabitants, while today there are no more than 700, and the vast majority of them are over 60 years old. This is the situation in which the village of Mirakë is located in the Polis unit near the municipality of Librazhd, and this is due to the immigration that has massively affected this area in recent years.
In the area you see houses with closed doors and windows and empty streets. Unemployment is the reason for the departure of more than 60% of the population from this village. The remaining residents say that not only young people have left the village.
" Many have fled the village, young men and women, they have no job. They fled to Germany, Italy, England ", said a lady. " When they finish high school, they work for two or three months before they find themselves and leave. Many flee to Germany ", said another resident of the village.
The lack of residents has put even the few businesses in the area in difficulty. " It has fallen over 60-70%, there are only old people left, they will receive the assistance, they will come two or three days to spoil those lek, and then there will be nothing left at all ", said a resident.
Even the village chief raises the same social problems. " It is depopulating. The young people have left, the reason is that there is no work, there is no future ", said Myslim Skodi. Once this rural area was very frequented by the inhabitants of Elbasan, to bathe during the flow of Shkumbin, but today it has been abandoned by its inhabitants as well.
