An 18-year-old girl died after being pushed onto the tracks by a Sudanese immigrant in a random attack at the Wandsbek Markt subway station in Hamburg, Germany.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 10 p.m.

The victim, Fatemeh D. , was pulled and pushed by Ariop A., 25 , who also died after being hit by the train. Authorities confirmed there was no previous connection between the two.

The news has shocked the community and the girl's family has expressed their grief on social media.

German media report that the attacker had a violent history and was on the authorities' radar.

He had been arrested a few days earlier for assaulting police officers, but was later released.
