ITALY

They set out from Lombardy and roamed across northern and central Italy to carry out robberies against businesses, with a particular focus on jewelers.

A gang of 'hawks' of 3 Albanians, who had also operated in the Vicenza area, was arrested by the Carabinieri in Bassano del Grappa last weekend.

The arrests were carried out, with the support of local police departments, in Corsico, Buccinasco and Trezzano sul Naviglio, all municipalities in the metropolitan city of Milan.

The gang in the province of Vicenza had carried out three robberies in June last year.

Specifically, the investigations carried out by the Bassano operations unit identified two robberies in Isola Vicentina on the night of 25-26 June and one in Villaverla the following night.

The first robbery took place in a wholesale warehouse: after interfering with and damaging the alarm system and forcing open a back door, the trio entered the building on Via Vicenza, looting goods and cash ( including bottles of fine wine and champagne, computer equipment and more than 15,000 euros in cash, for a total damage estimated, according to the lawsuit, at approximately 25,000 euros ).

That same night and on the same street, the gang attempted a second robbery at a company specializing in galvanizing, but succeeded thanks to the quick activation of the alarm system, which had driven them away.
