A 44-year-old Albanian has fallen into the hands of the Greek police, he was trying to traffic some antiques.
He was arrested in Vatondas on the island of Evia. An anonymous tip led to his arrest and the discovery of antiquities to be trafficked.
38 coins and 8 antique objects were found in the car.
They were examined by an archaeologist, who stated that the objects are included in the list of cultural heritage protection items and constitute objects of significant historical and archaeological value.
The coins were part of a "treasure" from an ancient tomb. Among them was a silver tetradrachm depicting Alexander the Great and Zeus, worth €5,000.
The coins date back to between 320 and 280 BC.
Dimitris Christodoulou, director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Evia, stated that the coins must have been stored in an airtight clay vessel found inside the tomb, while 22 coins show Alexander the Great and Zeus.
