A 22-year-old Albanian man has been sentenced to eight months in prison in London, after stalking an 11-year-old girl in Croydon. Erjon Sinaj first became obsessed with the minor in a park, and then followed her for days to her house.
At first the girl's mother thought that he was a person who was trying to steal her house, but later she realized that the young man's obsession was her daughter, as he stayed outside her window all night and occasionally knocked on the door.
His resistance continued even after warnings from the police and neighbors not to do such a thing again. Sinaj was interrogated by the police, he stated that there was a mutual feeling of love between them and that no one could stop him from stalking her.
According to the prosecutor Sebastian Cox, Sinaj returned to the girl's house even after the warning from the police, continuing to knock on the door and trying to keep in touch with her.
Sinai's lawyer, Afzal Syed-Ali, argued that his client had been unable to communicate with the victim's family and neighbors because of the language barrier, but he nevertheless pleaded guilty to stalking and causing serious distress.
In addition to the eight-month prison sentence, Sinaja was also ordered to stop contacting her daughter or her family and visiting their apartment.
