Elbasan, sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking, Agron

A person sentenced to life imprisonment from Greece for drug trafficking, but converted to two decades of isolation by Albanian justice, was arrested today (September 3) by the Police of Elbasan, as he was also on the wanted list of Interpol Athens.

Official sources confirmed that during the coded operation "Convert", they located and handcuffed the wanted Agron Çakalli, 54 years old, a resident of this city.

The investigation file shows that the Albanian was convicted in absentia by the Court of Appeal of Serious Crimes in Crete, Greece on December 2, 2016, with life imprisonment for "trafficking in narcotics" and "cultivation of narcotic plants".

Greece has transferred the file to Albania and on April 17, 2024, the Court of Appeal recognized the sentence of the neighboring country, converting it to 20 years of isolation, from which the operation in question got its name. The parties have agreed that this punishment will be carried out in our country after the arrest.
