The former leader of the Durrës gang, Lulzim Berisha, was extradited from Spain.
He arrived in Rinas on Tuesday evening.
Lulzim Berisha was arrested on December 14, 2023 in Spain after being wanted in January 2022 for the murder of Klodian Saliu, a crime that occurred in 2005.
In 2016, he managed to get out of prison without completing his 25-year sentence, being released on bail by the Court of First Instance in Durrës on the grounds of health reasons.
But the Supreme Court overturned the decision to release him on bail.
He was arrested in Spain and was carrying Bulgarian documents.
JUDGMENTS AGAINST LULZIM BERISHA:
In 2012, Lulzim Berisha was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Durrës Court for several serious crimes, a sentence that was overturned in July 2014 by the High Court.
The latter ultimately sentenced him to 25 years in prison, but only two years after this sentence he was released from prison, specifically in December 2016.
Four years after gaining his freedom, another criminal trial began against Lulzim Berisha, where he was again declared wanted by the justice system. SPAK charged him with participating in the murder of Klodian Saliu, Vajdin Lame and his friend Artan Arsi, events that occurred in 2005.
In 2021, the Supreme Court overturned the decision to release Lulzim Berisha in 2016 and ordered his return to prison. In May 2024, Lulzim Berisha was among the individuals for whom SPAK requested arrest in connection with a criminal proceeding.
