An operation started from Saturday morning until the early hours of Sunday was carried out by the Police Surveillance Agency at the Kakavija customs point in Gjirokastër.

After investigations ordered by the AMP, the customs officer, the physical control customs officer, was arrested, while another customs employee was declared wanted.

AMP had suspicions that customs officials and police officers were involved in corrupt schemes related to irregular customs clearance procedures benefiting sums of money.

During the hours of the operation, 1 trailer, 4 heavy tonnage trucks and other vehicles filled with goods were found that crossed the border point without checking and avoiding customs clearance payments. In the meantime, investigations continue to find out if there are other officials involved in this corruption scheme.
