The United Arab Emirates has recently returned to the "paradise" of Albanian crime bosses, where to this day there are several people from our country, among them wanted by SPAK, who have chosen to take refuge in Dubai to evade justice.
Today, the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, has shown during the plenary session that there is no extradition agreement with the United Arab Emirates.
The minister said that for this there was no will on the part of the United Arab Emirates.
According to Manja, the Ministry of Justice has continuously forwarded requests to the Emirates to arrest people on account of our country, but they are not extradited from the Emirates.
"I want to give an answer regarding what Mr. Salianji said about why there is no agreement with the United Arab Emirates where a large number of criminals wanted by Albanian justice are hiding. In fact, it is a completely different matter. It has nothing to do with these two agreements that we are discussing today because the issue of the bilateral agreement or the extradition agreement with the United Arab Emirates is the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice. As for your knowledge, dear colleague, it is true that we do not have an agreement with the United Arab Emirates, a bilateral extradition agreement with the United Arab Emirates. But the instrument with which today we have cooperation in the field of legal-criminal assistance with the United Arab Emirates is the instrument of the Convention. As the Minister of Justice, we tried to conclude a bilateral extradition agreement with the United Arab Emirates, but there was no will from the Emirates. Based on the instruments of the Convention, the Ministry of Justice forwarded all the requests of the Albanian justice authorities to the wanted persons who are hiding in the Emirates to the judicial authorities in the United Arab Emirates, but we have not received a response to these requests. There is no lack of will from the Albanian side because we have been consistent in our demands. We have forwarded all requests. Let us know, we are notified by the United Arab Emirates about wanted persons who are arrested there on account of Albanian justice and when we make available to the justice authorities all the necessary documentation from the Albanian prosecution, they are not extradited to us. This is the truth. We have made every effort, but this is not our responsibility. We will continue to seek to sign bilateral extradition agreements because the instrument of the Convention is insufficient in the present case", said Manja.
