Mark Samson , the perpetrator of the murder of Albanian Ilarja Sula, has given his testimony before the court.

He admitted to the serious crime and explained how he killed the young woman.

"I can't remember how many times I punched Ilaria in the face. And I didn't just punch her for reading the messages. I had so much pent-up anger," he said.

It is the first time, almost a year after the crime, that Samson confesses to punching Ilarjan.

In the past, he had stated that he had elbowed Ilarjan before stabbing him.

Now he has explained to the judges the reasons for the fight, which then led to the final act of stabbing.

"I had read her conversations, got angry, and hit her. However, it's not just about the messages that I hit her. Part of the bruises on my hand were caused by Ilaria's beating. I remember that he didn't scream much," he said.

At that moment, the prosecutor showed Samson the photos of Ilaria's swollen face.

He explains that on the night the tragedy occurred, their relationship was over.

"She wanted to leave me, but I did it first.  I had negative emotions, I had accumulated anger because I was always the one apologizing. That morning, in my room, Ilaria looked at me and I read an air of defiance in her. And I hadn't seen all her conversations with another person," Samson said.

During his testimony, the young man also admitted that he had repeatedly lied to the girl.

After this situation, she returned the engagement ring.

"It's true, I told her a lot of lies. It wasn't true that I was getting two degrees and that I didn't even have a GPA of 27. She found out. She told me that I had always told her lies and she gave me back the ring and the engagement letter," he said.

He admitted that after this the relationship changed, as according to him he wanted more freedom.

"From that moment on, everything was different. She wanted more freedom, to breathe. She told me she had registered on Tinder. Without her realizing it, he had taken her Instagram, Tinder and email credentials. I wanted her to tell me the truth. I told a friend: I'll drown her in an aquarium if she doesn't tell me," he said.

He also admitted to making vulgar comments about her while telling a friend about her conversations with another.

He stated that he had had an intimate relationship with her on March 25, but this was questioned by the prosecutor, as they had separated shortly before and he had decided to sleep on the sofa while she had gone to bed.

Before the jury, he testified that that same morning he had brought her breakfast in bed, sending her a tray with a knife, mortadella, and coffee.

But no trace of the mortadella was found, nor of the tray, and according to friends, Ilaria didn't eat anything for breakfast.

The presence of the knife is certain, as it turns out to be the murder weapon.
