A tragic accident happened around 02:30 at the Cifliku Dimal Roundabout, where the "Benz" type vehicle left the road and then caught fire, killing the 28-year-old.

The driver of the vehicle, citizen Kliton Merkaj , a resident of Berat, died inside the vehicle, after being burned. Relatives of the victim inform that a few days ago his 30-year-old brother also died, who drowned in the river.

It is suspected that the cause of the accident was the speed exceeding the permitted norms. The victim did not manage to enter the roundabout even though there was lighting in the area at night. The vehicle collided with the road pole, uprooting it and then ending up in the ditch.

According to a witness whose apartment is close to the scene of the accident, she was asleep and got up together with her husband after they heard the noise. As soon as they got close, the car burst into flames.

Residents of the area stated that this roundabout has often been a source of accidents. Even though it is equipped with lighting, the vehicles move at high speed, finding themselves unprepared for the path they must follow. They say putting up some signal barriers will cause drivers to be alerted to slow down.

Police notification:

During the night, on the road axis Berat-Ura e Kuçit, near the village of Poshnje, citizen KM, 28 years old, a resident of Berat, driving a "Benz" type vehicle, lost control over the direction of the vehicle and as a result the vehicle hit a light pole and fell into the side channel catching fire.

As a result, the driver, a citizen KM, died inside the vehicle. The investigative group is working to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
