A serious incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Mikrolimano, Athens.
At around 05:30, officers from the Piraeus police station considered a man outside a shop in Mikrolimano suspicious and attempted to search him. In an attempt to escape, the suspect pointed a gun at a police officer.
One of the police officers responded by using his service weapon, resulting in the injury of the perpetrator, who was transported to the “Attikon” hospital. At the scene, police found 3 firearms and 6 grenades suspected to belong to the perpetrator.
After being transported to the hospital, the suspect was identified as Alessio Xhelo , 41, from Fier, known in Greece as "Titi", a person with a serious criminal record. He has previously used the name Astrit Hasani.
It is not known how Xhelo ended up in Greece, as at least until last year he was under "house arrest" in Fier with 24-hour surveillance by the FNSH, under charges of "Trafficking in weapons and ammunition", "Removing a prisoner from his place of residence", "Kidnapping or holding a person hostage", and "Murder of State Police employees" which remained at an attempted stage.
Even on March 30, 2025, he was arrested after he had threatened, insulted, and insulted the police officer of the National Security Force, Fier Unit, who was on duty, supervising this citizen.
Xhelo was isolated in his apartment in Fier as he was a wanted person in Greece for the above charges.
He had escaped from Petro Ralli prison in Greece in June 2019 along with two other prisoners, managing to take a guard hostage.
He was in prison, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Greek and involved in 8 shootouts with the police in Greece, as well as in the rape of the wife of a foreign diplomat during the robbery of their home and in the kidnapping of a young man who he released after taking a lot of money from his family.
After escaping, he arrived in Albania and in October 2019 was arrested in Vlora with an unlicensed pistol.
The Greek justice system sent his file to Albania, and the court imposed the measure of "House Arrest" on him for the charges sought in Greece, specifically "Trafficking in weapons and ammunition", "Removing a prisoner from his place of residence", "Kidnapping or holding a person hostage", and "Attempted murder of State Police employees". He carried out this measure in his apartment in Fier under the supervision of the FNSH.
