Several taxi drivers in Tirana have fallen into the trap of a 29-year-old man, who took money and unpaid taxi services from them, leaving them with bags of garbage as collateral. Emrah Sh. was convicted by the Tirana Court of “fraud” and sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison, after being reported by two taxi drivers. After his arrest, he claimed to have defrauded several others with the same scheme.

A 29-year-old man from Tirana has pleaded guilty to defrauding several taxi drivers in the capital. In addition to not paying them for their services, he also took small sums of money from them along the way. The young man's scheme worked by building trust with taxi drivers by leaving personal belongings in the car as collateral, which ultimately turned out to be garbage taken to the nearest trash can.

Emrah Sh. faced the Tirana Court after two of the taxi drivers he had defrauded reported him, while he himself admitted after his arrest that he had defrauded at least three others. At the end of the trial, the 29-year-old was found guilty of “fraud” and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, which was reduced to 1 year and 8 months in prison due to the shortened trial.

Referring to the decision obtained by A2 CNN, in the first episode recorded in November 2024, the defendant took a taxi on “Bajram Curri” Boulevard, asking him to take him to the Police Department near “Myslym Shyrit”. At this location, he got out of the car claiming to be picking up an order and returned with a bag in his hand. After leaving it in the taxi, the young man asked the driver for 2 thousand lek, claiming that he would give it to the person who gave him the bag and that he would return it along with the taxi fare at the end.

At the final destination, the 29-year-old left this loot in the car, promising the taxi driver that he would return it along with 2,000 lek and the taxi fare, an action he did not return. The taxi driver later realized not only the deception, but also the fact that the bag contained garbage.

According to the court's decision, a week later Emrah Sh. "fished" another taxi driver, who transported him from the Zoo to the "Palace of Arrows" and took 1,000 lek, leaving a box of used clothes and potato skins in the trunk of the taxi.

During the trial, the defendant expressed remorse for the actions he committed, asking for mercy from the court and a minimal sentence./ A2 CNN
