Moment of execution

The video of the assassination of 43-year-old businessman Edmond Mëhalla has been released, on Sunday evening in the city of Elbasan.

The footage shows the moment when the perpetrator approaches the victim's car alone and shoots several times. The gunman wears a hood over his head to avoid identification by security cameras.

The murder took place in the "Emin Matraxhiu" neighborhood. The victim had just left the office and got into his "Range Rover" car, when he was shot with 6 bullets, two of which in the head, causing his instant death.

According to the police, after ensuring that the target was dead, the perpetrator fled in a black Audi car towards the Elbasan-Librazhd road. The rented vehicle was found burned the next day in the village of Miraka. The shooter remains unidentified.

Arrests and wanted persons

The investigation led to the arrest of Xhino Ago, the victim's former partner, a resident of Elbasan, suspected of being an accomplice in the crime. He is accused of the criminal offenses of "Premeditated murder", committed in collaboration, and "Unlicensed production and possession of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition". He is the person suspected of giving the perpetrator the car used in the crime.

Kujtim Pisha, 52 years old, a guard at a gas station, was also arrested and charged with "failure to report a crime."

The authorities have announced two people wanted: Marselo Arani, 32 years old, resident of Elbasan, who was under the security measure "house arrest" for another criminal offense, and Armando Kola, 35 years old, resident of Laç, suspected of the offenses "Premeditated murder, committed in collaboration", "Unlicensed production and possession of weapons", and "Removal of a prisoner from the place of residence".

Police have arrested another accomplice in the incident this Wednesday. He is Nevzat Spaho, 29 years old from Prrenjas. The young man with a criminal record has admitted that the victim's partner's car was given to some people from Lezghian before the incident.

Doubts, disputes over unpaid debts

Sources close to the investigation say that the victim and the suspected perpetrators were known to each other. It is suspected that Mahalla had had long-standing conflicts with some of them regarding unpaid debts, given at interest, and that tensions had been escalating for months.

It is learned that the victim had exerted pressure and had previously had verbal and physical conflicts with some of the people involved, which may have influenced the assassination. It is suspected that the murder was committed in the context of immediate revenge after a conflict, but the roles of each of the arrested and wanted people remain to be determined by the police and the investigation will determine the authorship of each.
