The Albanian government has today approved a decision to establish a cybersecurity emergency and crisis response team. The team, which will be known as CERT for short, will be established under the National Cyber ​​Security Authority (AKSK).

The CERT will be an ad hoc structure, which will step by step be responsible for the timely and efficient handling of cybersecurity emergencies and crises in Albania.

How will the CERT be composed?

The team will be led by AKSK, but will have representatives from some of the most important public institutions.

These are representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, the State Intelligence Service, the National Information Society Agency, the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data, the State Police, and cybersecurity, information technology and operational technology experts.

What is AKSK?

The National Cyber ​​Security Authority (NKSA) is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Law No. 25/2024 “On Cyber ​​Security”, Law No. 107/2015 “On Electronic Identification and Trust Services”, Law No. 9880/2008 “On Electronic Signature”, as well as the by-laws issued in their implementation.

The goal of AKSK is to establish an institution that guarantees the security and reliability of electronic services in Albania, by implementing international laws and standards with full precision. This institution aims to increase user confidence in electronic signatures, electronic identifications and trusted services, while strengthening the security of networks and information systems at the national level.
