Sending Western troops to the ground in Ukraine should not be ruled out in the future.
This is what the French president, Emmanuel Macron , said on Monday evening.
"An extremely precise and extremely rare statement, such a phase had never been heard in Europe, not even verbally," said Peer De Jong, vice president of the Themiis Institute, geopolitics specialist and former colonel of marine corps. "A shocking sentence," he added.
"It is an extremely strong commitment and clearly addressed to the Russians," the military specialist continues to explain. This issue of sending ground troops is one of the options. "If others claimed that there was no consensus on the issue of sending military troops to Ukraine, the French president continued to reaffirm a form of determination regarding the Russian offensive," Peer De Jong underlines.
"Today, there is no plan at all to send ground troops to Ukraine, especially since 27 countries have to agree," said the vice president of the Themiis institute. Emmanuel Macron is trying to position himself at the forefront of support for Kiev. "We see that France is taking the lead of the situation, to offer protection in Europe", says the specialist.
"President Macron obviously wants to appear as a kind of organizer in the anti-Moscow battle, since Russia has invaded Ukraine", he concludes./ France Info
