Bektashi Muslims have grown significantly over the past few years. The data of the Institute of Statistics show that in the 2023 census, more than 115 thousand Bektashin were declared , a significant increase compared to 2011 when there were 58 thousand Bektashin Muslims. 

The largest part of the population, about 1.1 million, belong to the Muslim faith , however compared to 2011, this category also suffered a decline, of about 485 thousand believers.

Catholic Christians numbered 201,000 in 2023, from 280,000 estimated in 2011. Orthodox Christians have experienced a slight decline, from 189,000 in 2011 and 173,000 in the 2023 census. Evangelical churches have increased the number of believers, from 3 thousand 797 in 2011 in about 10 thousand citizens.

Meanwhile, an increase in the number of citizens who have declared themselves atheists, i.e. who do not belong to any religious faith, is noticeable. In total, in 2023 , 85,000 people answered that they do not believe in God , and 244,000 preferred not to answer. Compared to 2011, the number of atheists has increased by 15 thousand citizens.
