Melisa Trëndafili, the 31-year-old woman who was burned after her husband threw gasoline on her, continues to be treated with medical help at the Burn-Plastic service at QSUNT, while the police continue their search to arrest her husband Bledar Trëndafili.
The Minister of the Interior, Ervin Hoxha, reacted to the serious event that happened yesterday afternoon in Korça, focusing on domestic violence as a problematic phenomenon that requires an immediate response to stop it.
"The serious incident that happened yesterday in Korça, where a husband in the process of divorce tried to burn his wife with gasoline, is an unacceptable act that reminds us that domestic violence is still a problem that cannot be ignored and that requires immediate reaction from the responsible institutions and from the whole society. Such events are a serious violation of human rights and a strong appeal to provide stronger protection for all those who suffer from domestic violence, especially for minors, girls and women. I am convinced that, in order to prevent and treat such cases, not only the reaction of the relevant institutions is enough, but also the solidarity and awareness of our society, so that no one is subjected to such unacceptable treatment, as the case of Korça. "
The head of the Ministry of the Interior requests the society's reaction to such events, calling for their denunciation to the police.
"Therefore, I call on citizens to report any case of domestic violence and to cooperate with the authorities, to ensure that those who commit these acts face the consequences of their actions, just as the perpetrator will face of yesterday's event! As Minister of the Interior, I express my greatest support for victims of domestic violence and my commitment to work tirelessly for a society where everyone feels safe and respected. By wishing the lady - a victim of domestic violence yesterday in Korça - a speedy recovery, I express my commitment to strengthen the mechanisms of protection and proper support for victims like her, and I invite other responsible institutions to act quickly and in accordance with our government's policies to combat domestic violence."
