Albanian prisons as cell phone shops/ Shkodra cells raided: Here's how many

A surprise operation by the services of the General Directorate of Prisons has discovered three mobile phones in the cells of the Shkodra Penitentiary Institution, which were immediately seized and work has begun to identify the prisoners who possessed them.

Based on information received operationally from the Shkodra Penitentiary Institution, in cooperation with the Supervision Agency for the Execution of Criminal Decisions System and under the direction of the head of the institution and the Chief of Police, a search was conducted inside the institution.

During the search of Building 2, it is reported that three mobile phones were found, and specifically, 1 Xiaomi mobile phone was found in the shower rooms. Meanwhile, 1 Nokia mobile phone and 1 iPhone mobile phone were found in the laundry room, along with two charging plugs.

"Relevant incident reports and blockade minutes have been drafted for the case, while the Agency has been notified for further follow-up of the procedures," the General Directorate of Prisons announces.

Prison institutions have been subject to strict controls for two weeks, following the publication of a video by journalist Flamur Vezaj, which showed several convicts in Durrës cells, celebrating and holding mobile phones.

Telephones, alcoholic beverages, and other prohibited equipment and items have been found in almost all prisons.
